Shiva Shahla

Born in Iran, 1973, Shiva Shahla graduated from the Chemistry Department at Azad Islamic University, Tehran. She is a permanent member of the Iranian Painters Association and honorary member of the Center for Development of Visual Arts. Shiva has conducted six individual exhibitions from 2002 to 2018, and has participated in 40 group exhibitions, nationally and internationally.

Shiva’s two recent exhibitions were thematically designed to explore the question of identity in the contemporary space. In doing so, in her paintings, she has employed certain pencil techniques. The four previous exhibitions, however, have adopted figurative abstract using acrylic on canvas technique. Furthermore, Shiva has also participated at Tehran’s 6th and 7th biennale painting exhibitions, and also at three biennale design exhibitions. She has thus participated in numerous group exhibition. In her works, Shiva explores the crisis of identity and identity vacuum in contemporary space.

Shiva Shahla, in her work, delves into the crisis of identity and the current vacuum in contemporary space. Her works, thus, illustrates the perceived vacuum in the eyes of the subjects, and the choices that are floating in the past and present, missing negatives that emphasizes on immature individualities
