Salman Khoshroo, born 1983 in Iran, spent his childhood years in New York. After a few intermittent years in Iran he went to study in the Australian National University, where he received his degree in Digital Art.
Artist statement:
My art plays with the expectations and perceptions of the human image. It is an obsession to take inanimate materials such as paint, and shape it into a face that embodies a human soul. It is about a human spark, a presence that engages with empathy. My art is multi material, painting sculpture and something in between. These portraits and configurations are sometimes made of lowly and unassuming materials such as wires and wool. There is an essence that I am chasing that can manifest itself in many forms and materials.
