Alexander Votsmush

1967
/
Russia

The artist was born in 1967 in Omsk. Since 1971, Alexander resides in Sevastopol, where he moved with his parents when he was a little boy.

At the age of twenty Votsmush graduated from Crimea Art School, and from 1989 till 1991 he studied animation in the Russian State Institute of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov (VGIK). But institute studies limited artist’s creative freedom, therefore they were interrupted.

Arush Votsmush’s works, performed in extremely difficult watercolor technique are notable for flawless color composition, masterful combination of facture and line. Paintings’ subjects are filled with delicate irony and play. They combine reminiscences of fantasy dreams and real life events. Even the most mysterious, disproportionate landscape looks very elegant.

“There’s a word “conflict”, it’s when you see something incredible, something that makes your inner wheels turn into the right direction.
A good conflict with goosebumps is interesting. And goosebumps can appear from anything at all: from cold water, from holiday, from when you suddenly felt something like in your childhood – when you first got surprised and it sparkled in you… I’m not trying to prove anything to anyone with my works. First and foremost, I get pleasure. This is a pure drug of art. Or pure life without doping. Simply a miracle” Arush Votsmush.
