Art Therapy & Workshop
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that utilises art as a mode of communication and expression. Aiming to help with emotional, behavioural, physical and mental health issues, our art therapists will guide and encourage you to explore your own thoughts and feelings through the art that you create.
The overall mission of art therapy is to help our clients discover their own creative language and build relations with self-expression and self-reflection through different art-mediums. Although art therapy is not used as a diagnostic tool, it can help address issues such as emotional, behavioural or mental health problems, learning or physical disabilities, life-limiting conditions, neurological conditions and physical illnesses. The overall goal is to release creativity, ease distress, cope with trauma and resolve conflicts. The process of making art itself is very healing, and art therapy can help you gain personal insights and new coping mechanisms. Furthermore, benefits can be reaped by those of all ages, from children to the elderly.
Your art therapist will work closely with you to determine which medium is best for your needs, whether it be drawing, painting, clay, colouring or collage. The properties of these materials and how they work can affect your therapy – for example, watercolour paints are wet and imprecise, whereas pencils are dry and controlled.
You don’t need any previous artistic skills to begin classes, and you are free to create whatever feels the most comfortable for you. The goal is not to create a perfect product, but rather focus on the process and its ability to express inner thoughts and feelings. Today, art therapy is not only an effective therapy for emotional difficulties but it is also something people are turning to for personal and creative development.
Whether you are an art aficionado seeking the company of like-minded people, looking to improve your skills, or simply in need of inspiration, we have workshops designed to help you achieve your goals, well away from the distractions of everyday life. Taking a workshop with Blue Rhino provides a safe space where you can step outside your comfort zone and where you will gain the motivation and confidence to experiment, and perhaps even excel, at something new.
Due to the social distancing regulations put in place by COVID-19, we are now providing private art therapy sessions and workshops.
