Art Therapy & Workshops
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that utilises art as a mode of communication and expression. Aiming to help with emotional, behaviour, physical, and mental health issues, our art therapists will guide and encourage you to explore your own thoughts and feelings through the art you create.
The overall mission of our art therapy services is to help our clients discover their own creative language and build relations with self-expression and self-reflection through different art mediums. Although art therapy is not used as a diagnostic tool, it can help address issues such as emotional, behavioural or mental health problems, learning or physical disabilities, life-limiting conditions, neurological conditions, and physical illnesses.
The overall goal of our service is to release creativity, ease distress, cope with trauma and resolve conflicts. The process of making art itself is very healing, and art therapy can help you gain personal insights and realise new coping mechanisms. Furthermore, benefits can be reaped by people of all ages, from children to the elderly.
Your art therapist will work closely with you to determine which medium is best for your needs, whether it be drawing, painting, clay, colouring or collage. The properties of these materials and how they work can affect your therapy experience – for example, watercolour paints are wet and imprecise, whereas pencils are dry and controlled, so depending on your therapist’s expertise, you will be recommended a medium of art to work with that best suits your needs.
You don’t need any previous artistic skills to begin classes, and you are free to create whatever feels the most comfortable for you. The goal is not to create a perfect product, but rather focus on the process of art making and its ability to express inner thoughts and feelings. Today, art therapy is not only an effective method for dealing with emotional difficulties but it is also something people are turning to for personal and creative development.
