The artist who tells the moment: Selahattin Aydın
Selahattin Aydin relates that the “things” that we have thrown into our memory for years, and accumulated there, emerge when they blend in time and reach a certain maturity. The images of children and children in Selahattin Aydın’s paintings are a result of his educator identity, which is a part of his life. In his child-focused compositions, theatrical scenes reflect the sense of “moment,” and bear the traces of the clues given by the child about all stages of life. In Selahattin Aydın’s paintings, reality is completely fictional. An understanding of reality completely dependent on tradition prevails.
It is possible to say that the elements of Selahattin Aydın’s painting are generally composed of more personal preferences and include the concept of “belonging” to his environment. Even if they are portrayed in a technical reality, they contain expressive tastes as attitude. Different colour and brush strokes on the painting contribute to the rich language of the painting as abstract elements.
We see that the artist follows an attitude far from the influence of today’s art measures in his paintings. This attitude allows contemporary art to offer more internal experiences away from fashion approaches. This is a sign that art today should be done with more individual preferences, not with stereotypes. Robust patterns and compositions will create a different perspective in Turkish painting.
