Ehsan Arjmand, who was born in Abadeh in 1982, started drawing at the age of seventeen and joined Alkhas’s workshop a year later. After that, Arjmand was trained in watercolours by Masoud Dashtban and in 2001 was accepted at Tehran University to study sculpture. In 2004 Arjmand held his debut exhibition at the Laleh Gallery. After graduating in 2007, Arjmand continued his formal education by pursuing a master’s degree in painting at the University of Science and Culture.
Arjman’s exhibition history includes thirteen group exhibitions in Teran and Beirut as well as solo and duo exhibitions in Dena, Laleh, Azad Art and the Artlab gallery. His most recent exhibition, took place in 2021 at the Sareban Gallery, titled “Suspension of the Body”.
For Arjman the body serves as a battlefield, a setting for accidents. The body is created and it creates. It grows and completes, but in some cases it doesn’t, it ages and dies. Through the surreal form of fleeting brushstrokes and linear figures, Arjmand explores the ephemeral and personal nature of the soul. The artist’s reflection is a journey that delves deep into his existing mind, extracting an inner feeling that is as fluid as it is impossible to fully comprehend. Each painting begins with a narrative derived from a drawing, a piece of writing, a photo or video, which Arjmand responds to through the expanding lines and abstraction of his art. Offering a poignant glimpse into the connection of the body with itself, others and the environment.
