A STRANGE ENTROPY
In thermodynamics, entropy is broadly speaking the state of disorder, a measure of the uncertainty in which movement occurs at a molecular level. So to speak, uncertainty is inextricable from possibility – the greater the variability, the more possibilities behind it. This dualism is explored in the group show, which brings together five different artists whose works evade quick categorization and are whimsical in their individual ways even as they explore themes that are serious and pertinent to our times.
At this year’s Art Fair Ankara, Blue Rhino Art presents newly commissioned artworks in line with the fair’s focus on women. While temperature and pressure are easily measured, entropy cannot be directly observed: it is based on instability. The artists take on questions related to this important concept in thermodynamics, and extract it into everyday life. How are chaos and disorderliness experienced with human senses? How does order affect our perception? Does order and chaos coexist, are they co-dependent?
